Sheryl Webster is a Liverpool children's author and the creator of Kindness Rocks® -a children's book and community movement built around one simple message: it's cool to be kind.
Sheryl lives in Liverpool, not far from the River Mersey, she is married and has four children. She has been writing for children for more than 20 years and has over 50 published books, which have been translated and published around the world. Before becoming an author, Sheryl studied Psychology and English before going on to teach in primary schools. During a career break after having her first child, her first picture book was published - and her writing career began. Sheryl writes books that are dynamic, witty and heartwarming, with stories that aim to entertain, empower, inspire and open conversations around issues that matter to children. In 2020, Sheryl began writing Kindness Rocks®, inspired by the belief that kindness becomes even more powerful when we turn the message into action. Published in 2024, the story of Jonny Heart, a rockstar lion with a big heart, has since grown into something much bigger than a book. Through Kindness Rocks®, Sheryl has worked with thousands of children, schools, charities and community groups, creating kindness gardens, school projects, community events, fundraising campaigns and the annual Kindness Rocks® Races. Children and young people have been involved in everything from creating kindness messages to supporting local charities and taking part in community projects. Her annual Rock Your Socks campaign brings people together to wear their favourite socks and donate brand-new pairs to support local people experiencing hardship. The campaign has now collected thousands of pairs of socks for local charities, including Cash for Kids Liverpool and Paper Cup Coffee Liverpool. Kindness Rocks® has taken Sheryl's little rockstar lion, Jonny Heart, from the pages of a picture book to Times Square in New York and, more recently, onto the big screens around Liverpool. For Sheryl, the most exciting part of Kindness Rocks® isn't what happens on the page - it's what happens when children take the message into the real world. She believes that kindness can be contagious - if we turn the message into action. Music is another huge source of inspiration for Sheryl and often finds its way into her writing and creative projects. She believes that, just like a good book, music can be a powerful source of inspiration, connection and expression. And she still loves writing more than ever. |
